We all have memories of various plays and programs participated in or attended during our high school days. Here are some photos of the 1958 Carats Program to embellish those memories. (Click on album title to open. Once inside the album, click on individual thumbnails to view larger images.)

We have John Echoff to thank for this program from the Milby Coed Cadets 1958 Carats. You will remember that this extravaganza was held each year at the Houston Music Hall. Enjoy the other pages from this program that follow.

If you have any photos or programs from a Milby play or other program, please send scans to Karla as an attachment to an e-mail (scans must be in jpeg or gif format) or send her the program by snail mail (to be returned) and she will scan and publish them in this blog photo album. E-mail her for the address.

You may have to get out your magnifying glass for this one.

Again...print is probably too small to read, unless your eyesight has remained sharp and keen. :-)

Hey, hey!!! That's John Echoff in the upper left photo. Now we know why Ray said (in a comment on this blog) that his sister had a crush on John because he was such a great dancer. He was a class act, main attraction, star performer dancer!!! Looks like Merle is in that category, too!!!

A few of our gorgeous classmates appear in this line-up with the upper-class women. Way to go, ladies!!!

Many of you sang in the Milby Golden "M" choir, although perhaps not as sophomores. It would be great to get a photo of the 1960 choir.

I see my brother (Randy Lofgren, Milby '58) appearing here in "The Shadows" (second from left). He sang in a group called "The Crystals" during his three years at Milby, briefly (this one performance ) with "The Shadows", then with "The Roommates" throughout his years at Baylor. That group performed in the 60's Carat show. Randy was a music major at Baylor and got a doctorate from Baylor in Educational Psychology. He is now an Associate Vice President at Baylor. Karla

Sharon Abdo amazed us with her energetic and cool moves. Word was that she mostly improvised and made it up as she went. Now that's real TALENT!!! Sharon, do you still have that kind of energy and flexibility???

Can anyone identify these "swingers"? David Jones in the "Swan Lake" routine is certainly memorable!

'58 Carats - "The Embers" and Jo Ann

'58 Carats - "The Embers" and Jo Ann

That Jo Ann could flat belt out a song. WOW!!!

Karla wrote on 7/22/07 - Were "The Embers" a Milby group? If so, let's have the names, please.

Clyde (Sonny) Jones clarified on 5/14/08 - "The Embers" were not a Milby group. They were from Reagan H.S. The guy on the far left was Mickey Newberry who went on to become a huge success as a songwriter in Nashville. He wrote many hits you would be familiar with for some very big name artists. I suspect Kay Oslin might have known him, but that's just a guess.

The Classics - the two on the left are David Starnes and Glen Langston. The other two guys are still to be identified. Let us know if you can help with this.

A bearded minister and world traveler now, Glen Langston (second from left) appears in the Milby Family Photo Album in this blog. His bio can be read on the Current Events Thread.

'58 Carats - More Curtain Acts

Here are some other of our upper classmen... although just 1-2 years older than those of us in the class of 1960. Funny what "unspoken social rules" existed about what "class" you were in. Most of us thought the upper classmen hung the moon.

On 05/14/08, Clyde (Sonny Jones) identified the members of this group as (L.to R.) Rex Vaughn, Jerry Simmons, Neal Seymour, Buster Sullivan, and Tommy Thompson. Sonny went on to say, "I did some recording in the early 60s and eventually recorded with the Mystics for a couple of years."
