Larry writes, "The raccoon in the pan is playing in the water. We put out a pan of water for the raccoons most nights. They wash their food in it, and especially the youngsters get all four feet in it. They love the water."

Larry reported, "This one, who had an injured leg in June, started hanging around the house during the day. His left rear ankle looks like it has fused and he can't bend it. But he walks and climbs pretty well now. He was still showing up early in the afternoon, and Steve took this picture of him watching us through the back French doors eating dinner."

According to Larry, "This is our cat, who we think spent too much time around the raccoons. He was a marshmallow, and sadly disappeared one night."

G - The Return of the Raccoons, Summer 2009

Last summer we enjoyed the photos Larry Smith submitted of his nightly visitors. The first one - in this album - is entitled "Family of Six". Now they have reproduced and returned. Here is how Larry describes it...

"Recently some of our nightly visitors have become morning visitors also. Tippi-toe has been showing up before 7am with two of her daughters from last year, all three showing signs of nursing. They come up and touch us with their noses, asking for a handout. One morning they had opened the two drawers of the table between our rocking chairs to get some biscuits that were left in a zip-lock bag.

This photo shows Grandma Tippi-toe and a youngster.

Larry continues..."We told them: "no babies, no food"! They have occasionally brought 2 or 3 babies, but this morning I think all of them came along. There were 13 of them. They were constantly moving into and out of the bushes. One was over at the birdbath and flat feeder with Tippi-toe lying on her back. I took a lot of pics and finally got two with all 12 of the other babies out in the open. We have no idea how many were in each litter, but we think all three were moms this year."
