Bo and I have been blessed to be able to travel to a lot of different countries over the last 17 years. Bo was employed by Aramco in Saudi Arabia for 9 years and I lived there with him for 8 of those years.

This afforded us so many opportunities to travel that would have never been possible otherwise. What a joy to see so many of the beautiful places in this world.

We traveled to Vienna & Salzberg, Austria where I was thrilled beyond measures to see the location for the movie, Sound of Music, which is my all time favorite movie. Then we traveled by rail through the lush countryside to Munich, Germany. All across Austria and Germany we found that every small town has its own local brewery and Bo had to sample them all. He said he did not taste a bad brew anywhere. I really loved these places and visiting the beautiful old castles and palaces.

We flew in and out of Amsterdam, Holland many times on our trips back and forth to Saudi. We took time to see the country, including a trip to Delft to see how the Delft china was made. There were so many other towns that I can't remember the names.

We went on the Nile Cruise in Egypt and visited many cities there. It’s a very different place, unlike anything I had ever seen before. We saw tombs, museums and of course the awesome pyramids, sphinx and many ancient Egyptian cities. We had a ball on the cruise - it was party, party, party. But if anyone goes on this cruise and they tell you not to drink the water, DON'T DRINK THE WATER. A bunch of our friends and Bo and I got really sick. I picked up a parasite and was sick for four months, YUK.

One of the most special trips we took was when we traveled to the Czech Republic where Bo's grandfather was born.

I loved Prague and I love crystal, so I had a ball shopping. We ran out of luggage space to pack all the goodies and decided to buy more luggage for the crystal pieces we did not want to have shipped back to the states. Trying to find someone to understand what we wanted was quite an ordeal and very funny too. I was using all kind of hand gestures to try to get someone to understand that I wanted to buy more luggage. It was hilarious. I’m sure the natives thought I was some kind of nut.

F - Thailand

F - Thailand

We also had an opportunity to travel to Thailand. We visited every Buddha imaginable: the emerald Buddha, the reclining Buddha, the golden Buddha, etc. We were dazzled by the beauty of the most incredible palace I’ve ever seen. The palace took years and years to build, adorned with millions of ceramic tiles of all sizes. I loved shopping in Thailand and all of the sites were fantastic. But I got really sick while there and Bo says it was all the fresh pineapple that I ate. I just couldn’t get enough of it.

While living in Saudi Arabia, we visited Dubai and Bahrain many times. They were quite different from Saudi Arabia, allowing us much more freedom. Living in Saudi Arabia was an experience of its own.

We entertained all the time, including a lot of the young men over there during the Gulf War.

I - Istanbul

I - Istanbul

I had the privilege of being a cruise coordinator with Princess Cruise Lines and was invited to go to Istanbul, Turkey with my girlfriend, who is a travel agent. We visited the then new Grand Princess and got to hob knob with the big wigs. Turkey is a very pretty country!

J - Palace in Istanbul

J - Palace in Istanbul

I visited many places in Turkey so that I could help people with their vacation arrangements. My girlfriend and I were treated like royalty everywhere we went. I was there for five days.

Then I was invited to go on a FAM trip (a ship familiarization trip with NCL), a cruise in Alaska. From the time I got back to Saudi Arabia from Turkey, I only had a few days to get ready to travel again and also convince Bo to let me go again. I talk real fast when I get excited, so you can imagine how fast I was talking. So many opportunities opened up for me while in Saudi.

I have also been to London, England. That was a fast trip with time to see only one show, but had a great time anyway.

K - Tallowood Mission Trip - Portugal

In 2000, I was blessed to go on a mission trip with the Tallowood Baptist Church Adult Choir to Spain and Portugal with Charlotte Vann Casselberry who was a member of the choir. I was invited to go along as a helper. What a wonderful experience that was.

We saw some of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world there.

The choir sang like angels. I will never forget the way they sounded or the way the people received them/us.

After the mission tour, a group of us took a side trip to Paris, France.

Charlotte and I had a wonderful time seeing all the sights we could cram into four days...

Q - Sunset in Hawaii

Q - Sunset in Hawaii

When Bo and I married, he asked me where was the one place I would like to go, and I told him that I had always dreamed of going to Hawaii. One day he came in from working in the yard and said "how would you like to go to Hawaii?" and of course you know what my answer was - "when?” He said as soon as you can make the arrangements. So you can bet it did not take me very long to make those reservations.

We flew into Oahu and spent three days in Honolulu before boarding a beautiful NCL ship. We had a beautiful suite with a balcony from where we watched the flying fish. Yes, there is such a thing. The long wait for my dream vacation was definitely worth it. We cruised the islands for seven days, stopping at a private island called Fanning Island which is owned by NCL. Fanning Island is the top of an old volcano west of Hawaii and across the International Date Line. The people are very primitive and their lifestyle is very primitive. The island had one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been on. The trip took half of the night to get there and then half of a day to get back to the other islands. I highly recommend this fabulous cruise. When we returned to Honolulu, we stayed three days. For those of you who have not been to this beautiful place, I hope you will be able to go. What a romantic and fun place to go.

I have been on cruises to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Hawaiian Islands. I have also seen a lot of Mexico, both while growing up and later after I was grown. As you can see, I have been blessed beyond words to be able to travel and see some of this beautiful world that the Lord has made for us. Bo and I would still like to travel more if possible.

Thank you for listening to me tell of my wonderful travels around the world. We had so many wonderful experiences that time and space does not permit me to write everything. I hope this inspires some of you to write about your travels, too.
