On April 5, 2010, Betty sent this biographical information:
After graduating from the University of Texas I started my teaching career in the Clear Creek school district. The dads of the students in my early classes were designing the space station. I taught at Sam Houston State in the education department while finishing my master's degree.
I married Fred Strauss, a Lamar High School and Sam Houston graduate. We have always lived in the Houston area ~ first in Houston, then in Katy, and now on a small ranch in Sealy where we raise Brangus cattle.
We have stayed busy raising two daughters, both graduates of Taylor High School in Katy and Baylor University. Stacey (Black) has a Rhea Lana Children's consignment business in the Frisco area, and Susan York is an event and wedding planner and owns her own business, Simply Personal and Event Studio.
I retired from Katy ISD after 28 years in the profession but still work at my former school as the TAKS remediation teacher from January until the end of April. I love to quilt and stay busy with our church, Kingsland Baptist. Fred is about as retired as I am. He is still in the business of selling life insurance. Most of his time is spent fixing fences and taking care of those beautiful black cows. I love to travel and Fred always enjoys the trips. Alaska and Switzerland rate high on the list, but visiting the grandkids in the Dallas area is always the best.

Hi Betty, do you remember when we saw each other at Kingsland Baptist one Sunday long ago. I was visiting and looking for a home church. I am now a member of 2nd Baptist West Campus down the rode from Kingsland.
You too have had a very interesting and full filling life. You need to have a reunion at your ranch or maybe a Class of 1960 picnic sometime in the future.
See you at the reunion. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
