Even though I am a 1962 graduate of Milby I enjoy hearing about our Milby graduates from other classes. Thanks for taking the time to keep us updated.

First time viewing this blog. GREAT. Thanks for posting all the news. Arline Baumgarth Smith
[ Karla responded to Arline: Hi, Arline! Did you see the Milby Era Photo Album? John Echoff sent some photos he'd been keeping in his billfold for the last 50 years - one of you there! Check it out at:

You'll probably have to copy and paste this URL into your browser. Let us hear more from you! Karla ]

I am a graduate from the Class of '62 but my brother, Tom Randall, graduated in '60. You are doing a great job with this blog and it is nice to learn the where-abouts of old friends. It has brought back many great memories.

So glad you visited our site and hope you will return often. I remember Tommy well. Please greet him for me and encourage him to visit our blog also. We'd love to know about him now, and the road he traveled to get there.

This is my 1st visit to the blog. I'm Betty Ponder Simmons, Class of '59. My husband, Jerry Simmons, class of '58 and I attended my 50th reunion this past October. It's the first reunion I had attended and now am so sorry I missed the earlier ones. It's great to reconnect after so many years and learn again that good friends are always good friends no matter the time passed or the distance apart. Thanks to my committee for all the hard planning. It was so classy and fun. 1959 class, we were a great group and it really was the good old days!

Betty, I remember you so well from the Park Place days. I remember your mother too - she always seemed so gentle and caring. I was so happy to see pictures of you at the '59 Reunion. You were definitely one of the girls I admired and emulated while at Milby (and at PPE and Deady, too).
I did not know that you married Jerry Simmons. I thought the e-mail comments in the post "Did You Ever Know You Were Our Hero?" about how Jerry brought everything full circle with his singing were absolutely beautiful. I am so glad that our class got to hear those impressions, if not the read deal.
Thanks for contributing to our blog. We'd love to have you return often and add your thoughts to ours. Much Love! Karla Lofgren Davis

Hi Betty,
Don't know if you'll remember me or not, but we kinda ran with the same crowd for awhile. I believe it was when I was in the 9th grade at Deady and you were a sophmore Buff. I could certainly be wrong because my former "steel-trap memory" has been deserting me lately on a regular basis. I didn't know you married Jerry either. I sang with the Mystics after Jerry left and for awhile the '59 committee was talking about our getting back together to sing for your reunion. I think Rex had even talked with Jerry about doing it. It sure would've been fun, but probably wouldn't have been the same without Neal.
Hope to see more entries from you (& what's his name) on the blog in the future.
Your pal....Sonny Jones

I have a scooter in my garage exactly like the one John is sitting on in the 1949 photo. My mother bought me one exactly like the photo at Sears on Harrisburg in 1956. I paid her back with my paper route earnings. The one in the garage I bought in 1996. It cost me 900 big ones. The one my mother bought at Sears cost $217.00

Cool comment, Colin! I loved hearing John's original story in September 2007 about his Cushman Scooter (click on this URL to his bio page and scroll down to the Cushman pictures: http://milby1960.typepad.com/milby_class_of_1960/john-echoff.html) and it just gets better knowing that you took it a step further by buying a vintage scooter like the one from your youth. Men (and women) and their toys!!! Interesting too that both of your Moms figured in your original Cushman experience! Karla

Do you have any information on the 1959 class?
Posted by: Robert Klotz | January 10, 2011 at 08:18 PM
Robert,
Did you see the album of photos from the Class of '59 50th reunion? There is also a neat post with comments from class of '59 members. Check it out here at these two links.

If you click on the photos in this post you can see an enlarged version.

Other than I don't have anything. Hope you have fun looking at the photos and reading their thoughts.

What a treat to read this blog even though the only people I really know are my brother, Sonny and Colin Patterson. I'm on the Reunion committee for 1965 alumni and realize the work that goes into all the effort to keep our group together. Thank you, Karla, for this....it's very enjoyable and I will definitely pass it on. Milby class of '65
