Ma) Entering the Valley of the Tombs of the Kings

From the carriage 'parking lot', Osman led us into the Valley of the Tombs of the Kings. After descending into a variety of deep and winding tunnels to see various 'trick graves', dead ends, and true sarcophagi, Osman took us to see the main attraction - King Tut's Tomb. At the Cairo Museum we had seen the great hall filled with shimmering gold and semi-precious stone encrusted artifacts that had been hastily piled into this boy-king's grave eons ago. None remained in the actual tomb, but there were photo displays of the original discovery and excavation, reminding us of what we had heard and seen in the books and magazines through the years. We did not have to be reminded of the curse that followed those who violated this grave.

As you can see - no other tourists - we had the place almost completely to ourselves!!!
